The eliminations of jobs increased far more than expected in the United States. 467,000 jobs have been destroyed in June. The unemployment rate is now 9.5%.
Analysts expected from 300,000 to 365,000 elimitations. However, the new statistics for April and May show that 8,000 less jobs were destroyed. In April, 322,000 jobs were eliminated, against 345,000 in the previous estimation. As far as May is concerend, estimation increased : 519,000 jobs were destroyed, whereas the previous number was 504,000.
The increase of eliminations of jobs is the biggest in the services sector : 244,000 jobs in June, against 170,000 in May.
As far as unemployment rate is concerned, it increased by 0.1 point from May to June. 9.5% is the highest level since August, 1983.
The only positive result is the one of industrial orders : it increased by 1,2% in May compared with April.
